This piece has a deep meaning for me, personally.
Life is, at times, a complicated journey filled with intense emotions of exhilarating highs and debilitating lows. And throughout that journey we’re constantly evaluating our “progress” as we search of a sense purpose.
During this time of reflection we drift away into a mental state of “what ifs” around virtually every aspect of our life including education, job, spouse, and many other major decisions.
It’s easy to assume the “grass is greener” if we would have made a different decisions.
However, this state of rumination rarely leads to content and satisfaction as we often assume the other decision(s) would have yielded a better outcome.
True happiness comes from an appreciation for what we do have.
It’s in this moment that I realized that everything I’ve been searching for ~ everything I’ve ever wanted ~ I already have: an amazing family, a great career, a sense of self worth, a willingness and effort to give back to my community, and a contentment of knowing that I’m doing my best in this journey of life.
But sometimes you need to go on that journey of finding out what you really want in life in order to ultimately realize that… you might already have it.
For me, Seattle is my home and, in this artwork, the Space Needle represents that notion that everything that I’ve been “in search of…” has been right in from of me all along.
And I’m grateful that I’ve finally found it.
