Ciara & Russell Wilson Library Cards

Chapter I | The Power of Belief
Russell Wilson and Ciara have built their lives around a simple idea.

Why not you?

Through their work, both on and off the field, they have consistently used their platforms to inspire others to believe in what is possible.

Russell’s leadership and discipline helped define an era of Seattle football. Ciara’s influence in music and culture has reached audiences around the world.

But beyond their individual success, their shared commitment to giving back is what truly sets them apart.

Through the Why Not You Foundation, they have created opportunities for young people to dream bigger, reach further, and believe in themselves.

This project was built on that same belief.

Chapter II | Dream Big
The idea behind the project was rooted in something simple, but powerful. Access. Libraries have always been one of the most important community resources. A place where anyone, regardless of background, can learn, grow, and imagine what is possible. In partnership with the Why Not You Foundation, the King County Library System, the King County Library System Foundation, and made possible by J.P. Morgan Chase, the goal was to create something that would inspire that next generation. “Dream Big. Anything is Possible.” That message became the foundation of the project. And the medium was something unexpected. Library cards.
Chapter III | Designing the Cards
Each card was designed to be more than just functional.

It needed to tell a story.

Using a combination of traditional pencil drawing and digital design, I created portraits of Russell Wilson and Ciara that blended realism with symbolism.

Their faces were drawn entirely in graphite.

Every detail built by hand.

Surrounding those portraits, digital elements were layered in to reflect different aspects of their journeys. Achievements, values, and moments that connect back to the idea of dreaming big.

King County Library System's resources can play a pivotal role in helping the youth continually gain knowledge and confidence so they can dream big, too.

Each card carried meaning.

Not just in how it looked, but in what it represented.

A small object, designed to spark something much bigger.

The concept

Before we understand the world, we live in black and white.
Not because life lacks beauty, but because we haven’t yet learned how to see it.

That’s why each figure is rendered in pencil. A reflection of the beginning. A place where curiosity exists, but clarity has not yet arrived.

Then comes knowledge.

And with it, color.

Color transforms everything. It sharpens our perspective, expands our imagination, and gives us the confidence to believe in something greater than what’s in front of us.

Few places hold more potential for that transformation than a library. Not just a building, but a gateway. A place filled with stories, tools, and opportunities quietly waiting to be discovered.

The King County Library System represents that gateway. In this piece, the book serves as the foundation. It symbolizes access. Possibility. The starting point of every dream.

Because when we choose to learn, when we choose to explore, the world doesn’t just change.

It comes alive.

And in that moment, with knowledge as our guide and belief in ourselves growing stronger, we begin to realize something extraordinary:

Anything is possible.
Chapter IV | In the Community
The cards were released through King County Library System locations across the region.

Available only in person.

Free to anyone who came in.

What made it special was not just the design, but the experience.

To receive one, you had to walk into a library. Step into a space built around learning, growth, and opportunity.

The project came to life during a major unveiling event at one of the library locations.

A moment that brought together the foundation, the partners, and the community.

What started as an idea had now become something tangible.

A connection between art, education, and inspiration, placed directly into the hands of the people it was meant to reach.
Chapter V | Anything Is Possible
This project was never just about creating a card.

It was about creating a message.

A reminder that big dreams can start in small places.

A library. A book. A moment of inspiration.

Through the Why Not You Foundation and its partners, that message continues to reach young people who are just beginning to imagine what their future could look like.

And through this collaboration, that message took on a new form.

Something they could hold.

Something they could carry.

Something that reminds them, every time they see it, of one simple idea.

Why not you?
