It’s official! President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are now owners of one of my original drawings!
In the picture on the right side you can see Gov Insee presenting the drawing to President Obama (this is only pic I have now, but I’ll likely receive others from the Gov’s photographer soon).
The President also immediately recognized the “moment” that I drew, and was blown away by the level of detail. He kept commenting on how real the drawing looked (much of the fine details aren’t visible in photos of the drawing). That’s pretty much the best reaction I could ever hope for!
Attached to the back of the frame is a letter (pic on the upper left) that includes this quote:
“Happy is the man who finds a true friend, and far happier is he who finds that true friend is his wife.” – Franz Schubert
Also included is a short biography about me (with my contact info) and, most importantly, a note about the significance of this piece:
“This pencil art was create for President Barack Hussein Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to thank them for their service on behalf of all Washingtonians. While the legacy that is left in history will be remembered for the sacrifices and deeds accomplished, it is your love and commitment that will be forever remembered by those whose hearts you have touched.”
To say that I’m honored to create a piece on behalf of all Washingtonians would be a gross understatement. Since returning to art, I’ve done my best to represent our state both in-person and across the “global village” that is social media. It’s truly unbelievable to be recognized on this level, and I’m forever grateful.
I’ve had a lot of people ask about prints of this piece. I wasn’t originally planning to make prints available, piece but, given the number of requests, I made a small run or prints and they’re available now at KeeganHall.com.
I can’t wait to learn where this piece will be displayed. Since it’s an “official” gift from the State of Washington, it can only end up in one of two places: in the Obama’s family home (one his final term has concluded) or at the new Obama Presidential Library that is currently being built in Chicago.
So, if you visit the library in the future and don’t see it… well, now you’ll know where it is.
This piece was originally created FOR President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The original drawing was presented to the President by Jay Inslee, Governor of Washington, on behalf of all Washingtonians.
I took the level of detail to a new high with this piece. You can see the pores on the skin, individual hairs, and even the smallest details in the bracelets. I wanted to push myself to create something greater than I’ve ever done before, and I can honestly say this is it.
This entire piece was hand-drawn with a pencil. The prints are extremely high-quality and the image is so clear that you can see the individual pencil stokes. Each print is 9.125″ x 18.25″ in size, and is printed on heavy 130# Sterling paper.
